Research effects

In traumatic brain injury (TBI) treatment, patients receiving Cerebrolysin showed significant improvements in Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) scores. A 6-month prospective study of 340 patients with moderate TBI complicated by intracerebral hemorrhage demonstrated that the Cerebrolysin group had superior improvement on the Coma Recovery Scale-Revised (CRS-R) (20.3±2.7 vs 16.4±2.1), with significantly higher 6-month survival rates (59.4% vs 27.8%) and no increased risk of adverse events. In acute ischemic stroke patients, Cerebrolysin as adjunctive therapy significantly improved motor function with rapid onset, facilitating accelerated recovery. In intensive care unit patients with delirium, 50mL Cerebrolysin daily for 7 consecutive days reduced delirium severity and improved cognitive function. Research mechanism

Cerebrolysin exerts neuroprotective effects through multiple pathways. In cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury, it reduces excitotoxic damage by inhibiting excessive activation of the NMDA receptor NR2B subunit and downregulating key apoptotic proteins including JNK, PTEN, Calpain, and Caspase-3. In traumatic brain injury, Cerebrolysin suppresses the TLR2/TLR4 signaling pathway, reducing levels of inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and NF-κB, while upregulating tight junction protein ZO-1 expression to protect blood-brain barrier integrity. It also reduces neuronal apoptosis by regulating the Bcl-2/Bax ratio and decreasing Caspase-3. Additionally, it possesses antioxidant properties, improving post-ischemic neuronal dysfunction and enhancing neuroplasticity.
