Research effects
Liraglutide is a long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist that achieves weight loss and glycemic control via central appetite suppression (activating POMC/CART, inhibiting NPY/AgRP and reward pathways), delayed gastric emptying, and glucose-dependent insulin secretion. Its mechanism is metabolic state-dependent, with additional hepatic gluconeogenesis inhibition in advanced disease. Renoprotection involves PGC-1α activation via PKA/CREB and AMPK/SIRT1 pathways with NLRP3 suppression. It also shows potential in Alzheimer's disease. Common adverse effects are gastrointestinal.
