PEG MGF (PEGylated recombinant human Megakaryocyte Growth and Development Factor) is a truncated, polyethylene glycol-conjugated form of recombinant human Mpl ligand (thrombopoietin). Its core function is to stimulate endoreduplication and proliferation of megakaryocytes, dose-dependently increasing the production of functional platelets. PEGylation significantly extended its plasma half-life to approximately 33 hours and enhanced its stability. It was investigated in clinical trials to accelerate platelet recovery following chemotherapy. However, randomized controlled trials in patients with acute myeloid leukemia demonstrated no significant reduction in the duration of severe thrombocytopenia or platelet transfusion requirements. Consequently, its clinical development and use have been largely discontinued.
