SS-31 (Elamipretide) is a mitochondria-targeting aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide that binds specifically to cardiolipin on the inner mitochondrial membrane. Its core mechanism involves stabilizing membrane structure and optimizing electron transport chain function, thereby reducing reactive oxygen species, restoring ATP synthesis, and inhibiting apoptosis.
